Financial Adviser John Hazell banned for two years by ASIC

ASIC has banned financial adviser John Hazell from offering financial services for a two-year period. Mr. Hazell previously served as an authorised representative of Richmond Partners Pty Ltd from the 1st of March 2018, to the 16th of May 2024.

He was registered with the Tax Practitioners Board (TPB) as a tax (financial) adviser from June 15, 2015, until his registration was terminated on March 8, 2023, due to his failure to meet the registration requirements.

In its review of Mr. Hazell’s interactions with the TPB, ASIC found that he had made misleading statements to maintain his registration. Additionally, he continued to offer professional services to retail clients despite being unable to manage his own financial tax affairs. He also did not adequately engage with a professional body when concerns about his conduct arose.

Given these issues, ASIC concluded that Mr. Hazell was likely to breach his obligations as a financial adviser. To protect consumers, a two-year ban has been imposed, preventing him from providing financial services, serving in any capacity as an officer of a financial services business, or controlling any entity in that sector.

The ban on Mr. Hazell will be recorded on ASIC’s publicly accessible Financial Advisers Register and the Banned and Disqualified Persons Register.

This information comes from the ASIC Media Release (24-224MR) published on the 9th of October 2024 and is true to our knowledge when published.
